Game Reports

Quarterfinal:  Newfoundland  12    Ironmen  2
Saturday, August 22nd

Newfoundland scored four times in the fifth inning, and six times in the sixth, leading them to a 12-2 victory over a tired Chatham squad.

Newfoundland opened the scoring with a pair of runs off starter Gary Traer in the third inning.  That lead would hold through a thirty-minute fog delay in the fifth inning.  When play resumed Newfoundland pushed their lead to 6-0, a lead the Ironmen could not make up.

Tom Burns led the Ironmen hitting attack with a pair of singles.
Newfoundland now advances to face Alberta in Monday's semifinals.  The second semi-final will see Ontario face off with Team Quebec.

Game 4:  Ironmen  2    Ontario  0
Saturday, August 22nd

Pete Shaw tossed a complete-game one-hitter to lead Chatham to a 2-0 victory over Ontario, propelling them to a quarterfinal matchup with Newfoundland.  Shaw was masterful on the mound, facing only 22 Ontario hitters, one over the minimum.

The Ironmen scored both of their runs in the fifth inning.  Adem Campbell's single scored Matt Jenkins.  Campbell would be replaced by pinch-runner Andrew Burns.  Burns would take second on a wild pitch, and come around to score on an Ontario error.

Game 3:  Dartmouth  5    Ironmen  2
Saturday, August 22nd

Darren Doucette's three-run homerun in the top of the ninth inning was the difference in Dartmouth's 5-2 victory over the Ironmen.  The win drops the Ironmen to 1-2, making this afternoon's contest with Ontario (2-1) a must-win.

JF Neveu was brilliant on the mound for the Ironmen, striking out fourteen Dartmouth hitters.  Matt MacDonald got the victory, scattering eight hits and eight strikeouts.

Tom Burns tripled and single for Chatham.  Nick Hardy drove in two runs with two singles, and Jon Saunders singled twice.

If the Ironmen down Ontario, they will play in tonight's quarterfinal matchup at 7pm.

Game 2:  Ironmen  4    Manitoba  1
Friday, August 21st

Matt Jenkins tossed a complete-game victory for Chatham to even their record at 1-1.  Jenkins yielded only six hits and one unearned run, striking out four.

The Ironmen scored their four runs in the second inning.  With two outs, Alan Hilchie and Darren Hardy put two runners on for Adem Campbell, who plated Hilchie with a single of his own.  Tyson Waye followed with a two-run single, scoring both Hardy and Campbell.  Waye would steal second base, and score on a Tom Burns single.

JF Neveu will take to the hill this evening versus Dartmouth in an important playoff matchup.  Dartmouth sits at 0-2.

Game 1: Quebec  6    Ironmen  1
Thursday, August 20th

The Ironmen were shut down by Quebec ace Dany Prata in dropping their first game 6-1 to Team Quebec.  Prata struck out six and scattered six hits.  Derek Wilson suffered the loss for the Ironmen, giving up four runs in four and two-thirds of an inning.  Steve Aube and Gary Traer pitched in relief.

The Ironmen loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth inning with the score 3-1, but couldn't muster any runs.  Tom Burns supplied the lone offence for the Ironmen, knocking a long home run to centerfield to lead off the home half of the first inning.

Chatham looks to regroup Friday morning when they face Manitoba at 9am.  Their third game will come Friday night at 7pm versus host Dartmouth.
