Sr. Ironmen establishing "Honour Roll"
By Doug Underhill
MIRAMICHI – Part of what makes any organization strong is the recognition of those who have helped make
the organization strong. The Chatham Subway Senior Ironmen are taking another step in the right direction. They are adding
to the Tradition of baseball surrounding Ironmen Field by creating "Chatham Ironmen Honour Roll."
The purpose of the "Honour Roll" is to recognize the outstanding contributions individuals have made to Chatham
Ironmen Baseball. The Honour Roll will include players, coaches, managers and builders. Anyone inducted to the Roll must have
been out of baseball for at least five years.
Ironmen GM Daryl Matthews explained the reason for creating the Honour Roll.
"For a number of years local sports fans have been requesting a way to honour outstanding contributions to
the Chatham Ironmen teams and organization. A committee was formed and criteria was established, and the selection process
has begun for the inaugural ceremony to be held between the double header against Saint John Alpines on Saturday July 29.
Game one is at 6 p.m. followed by the induction ceremony and then game two.
The first three is be inducted to the Honour Roll are Joe Cook, Richard (Cuffy) McLaughlin and the late Billy
Daley.
The selection committee invites family, friends and loyal Chatham Ironmen fans as well as any Ironmen Alumni
who are available to be in attendance. Any Alumni are asked to register at the main gate for on-field recognition during the
ceremony.
During the evening the park will be licensed and there will be live entertainment and barbecue.
